Beowulf HC header
Picks of the Week:
Beowulf HC is one of the best iteration of this epic poem.  The monster designs were extremely imaginative and impressive; they had an otherworldly/alien vibe.
Birthright No. 21 filled in another blank and added another layer.  I was surprised to see the return of a certain Lore agent and it made me wonder why is Money so special? He is clearly unique among Lore’s minions.
Dr. Strange & the Sorcerers Supreme No. 4 had an expected victory & betrayal. I wonder how time will be impacted by all the chaos that occurred.  Part of me hopes that the Mindful One survives this series.
God Country No. 1 is an epic example of Kirby Fiction.  I am curious to find out why the changes seem to be mental rather than physical.  It is a welcomed change from the whole “touch an otherworldly artifact & get the god body” song & dance.
Moonshine No. 4 made me wonder why a dude would follow a gorgeous nude woman into the woods after all the crazy stuff he just witnessed? There’s another layer of this mystery that I am eager to discover.
Spider-man No. 12 leads me to believe that Miles has the best support group of any superhero. His friends are awesome.
The Flash No. 14 pretty much confirms why the Rogues are the best villains in my mind, they are the most human. The super villain support group is a brilliant idea.
The Mighty Thor No. 15 delighted me with the return of Kid Gladiator & Warbird. It also made me wonder where was Odin during all of this? I was also pleased that Heimdall was able to do some damage to Gladiator.

Worthy Mentions:
Action Comic No. 971 & Superwoman No. 6 truly provided a definitive & clear picture of the type of person Lex Luthor is.  His flaws are on full display here.
All-New Wolverine No. 16 surprised me because I figured that Madipoor crime lords would have developed a method to stop a berserk Wolverine by now. Logan has been slicing & dicing for years.
Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows No. 3 continues to show us what could have been if the Spider Office had any sense.
Deadpool No. 24 was a brutal issue and I am surprised that the goons actually surrendered (or tried to).
Deathstroke No. 10 delighted me with the breakdown of Slade & his kids’ abilities.  The segment with Rose reminded me of Gran Tourino for some reason.
Detective Comic No. 948 makes me wonder how the Colony will be different from the other elite foes Bats has faced.
Foolkiller No. 3 & Great Lake Avengers No. 4 felt like a truly demented episode of Robot Chicken/Venture Bros.
Hal Jordan & Green Lantern Corps No. 12 surprised that Orange Gollum’s ring works on that version of Brainiac.
Justice League Power Rangers No. 1 felt too short. I wanted more!
Invisible Republic No. 14 gave us a very unexpected revelation in this issue. Not sure why Maia reminds me of Princess Leia, especially later on in life.
JLA Vixen Rebirth No. 1 reminded me why I dug Vixen over Animal Man.
Justice League vs Suicide Squad No. 4 never thought that it was Lord’s ace but it makes perfect sense.
Max Ride – Final Flight No. 5 gave us a neat ending.
Ms. Marvel No. 14 reminded me of the gaming elements of the original Runaways series.
Motor Crush No. 2 gave us an extremely strong Akira vibe.
Occupy Avengers No. 3 gave us a surprisingly perfect team up.
Power Man & Iron Fist No. 12 delighted me with how Alex has succeeded his parents as a legitimate crime lord.
Silk No. 16 gave a tolerable tie-in book.
Southern Bastards No. 16 made me wonder why this isn’t on TV. What are you waiting for Hollywood?
Spider-Man Deadpool No. 13 made me wish that there was a Weird World anthology book.
Suicide Squad No. 9 gave a taste of the “original” Suicide Squad. They were a ruthlessly efficient team.
Supergirl No. 5 showed us what SHIELD should be!
Titans No. 7 reminded me how I missed Wally and Clark’s friendship.
Uncanny Avengers No. 19 gave an epic Cable moment, Nate is truly willing to make hard choices.
Wonder Woman No. 14 made me the new 52 Ares, he wasn’t a cliche.
The Burn Pile:
Won’t taint your beings by mentioning these offensive messes
