The Doktor’s Prescription for 6/22/16

Pick of the Week:

The Mighty Thor No. 8 gave us a buffoonish side of SHIELD in the form of Agents Krill and Kurdle.  I enjoyed the glimpse of a typical day for Jane and the villainous version of the Billionaire Boys Club.  Loved how quickly the Mintaur was taken down by Oubliette Midas and her slight redesign by the talented Russell Dauterman.

Worth the read:

Action Comics No. 958 reminds me of the Death of Superman storyline and makes me wonder if Nu52 Clark will return in a few years.

Aloha Hawaiian Dick No. 3 reminds me of a mix of Hawaii 5-0 and Magnum PI.

Aquaman No. 1 made me interested in Aquaman again.

Autumnland No. 11 is a consistently good read.  The world has many strange elements that seem to work well.

Captain America – Sam Wilson gave us Rhodey’s funeral. It gave us a sense of community among heroes of color not experienced since Ororo & T’Challa’s wedding.

Carnage No. 9 reads like one of those moody Japanese horror mangas (which isn’t a bad thing).

Civil War II – Choosing Sides No. 1 continued the legacy of McDuffie & Co with the new Damage Control story.

Deadpool v. Gambit No. 1 is such an entertaining and brilliant story, surprised that no one came up with this premise earlier.

Detective Comics No. 936 makes me wonder how long this change with Clayface will last.

Doctor Strange No. 9 reminds me of Aaron’s Thor Run with the arc length and rotation of artists.

ID Trade Paperback give you one of the more interesting stories from the Island Anthology IMO.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur No. 8 reminds me of a remix of Disney’s the Shaggy Dog.

Ms. Marvel No. 8 adds Ulysse and future predicting song & dance to Kamala’s neck of the woods.

Mythic Trade Paperback reminds me of a more violent and zany version of the Venture Bros.

Nighthawk No. 2 is taking on some serious and current racial issues.

Power Man and Iron Fist No. 5 was an unexpected fun and self-contained tale.

Rocket Raccoon and Groot No. 6 was another unexpected fun and self-contained tale.

The Flash No. 1 is another reason I am “fake upset” with DC.  I have been a consistent Marvel Zombie for over a decade.  But this book caused my staunch Marvel Only stance to waver.

The Totally Awesome Hulk No. 7 reveals what happened to Bruce Banner and what he has been up to. Banner’s apparently suicidal tendencies were unexpected but make sense within the context of the life he led.

Uncanny Avengers No. 10 presented us with the big Ultron reveal, I wished that they held off until Hank met his daughter.  I was surprised by Janet’s conviction after the reveal.

Wonder Woman No. 1 is interesting, I am not sure I feel about Call of Duty Steve Trevor.  Overall I am onboard with this book.

Nah, Just Nah:

The Unbelievable Gwenpool No. 3 was very bland and meh

Ultimates No. 8 is here only because I can’t stand rehashing the same story within the same month.

Web Warriors No. 8 is pretty meh
