The Doktor’s Prescriptions for 5/18/16

Picks of the Week:

All-New Wolverine No. 8

Dig the bonding between Laura and Gabby as well as Laura’s transition into the mentor role.  I am slightly confused about how Hill more or less got away with her latest scheme without penalty.  I am curious about how Old Man Logan will interact with Laura.

Future Quest No. 1

This book made the kid in me extremely happy.  It’s a rare wonder to see Space Ghost, Birdman, & Johnny Quest inhabit the same world.

Silver Surfer No. 4

Norrin Radd continues to exude a Doctor Who vibe especially with his decision to sacrifice his culture to save Earth’s.  I am surprised that Wakanda would make him an honorary citizen with their xenophobic attitudes (seeing how the king and its people haven’t been on the same page).

Spider-Man No. 4

The body weight vs race discussion was unexpected and shows a certain facet of Ganke’s and Miles’ friendship. Bendis definitely focusing time and energy to make it feel organic/real.

Spider-Woman No. 7

Jesse Drew is an interesting character, since I can’t recall many lawful evil characters let alone characters who would stop fighting because their opponent’s baby woke up.

Squadron Supreme War No. 7

Surprised that people outside of Steve Rogers and Namora actually liked Namor and even miss him.  The Nighthawk vs Nighthawk seems to be the start of something interesting.

The Astonishing Ant-Man No. 8

The villains’ retelling of their careers in New York & how to maneuver their way around the various capes in the city.  It’s surprising on some level, they have avoided Frank Castle so far.

Uncanny Avengers No. 9

Hank Pym’s return to Earth was interesting in the sense that it revealed how intimately “father” and “son” are connected.  I am also curious about how Pym can be hungry or even eat normal food at this point.

Worth the read:

Archangel No. 1 is an interesting time travel tale & contains some interesting/refreshing elements.

Citizen Jack No. 6 reminds me of Superior and the Devil’s Advocate.

Civil War II No. 0 is a hopeful start to another mega event.

Deadpool & The Mercs For Money No. 4 gave us the return of Bruiser.

Deadpool – Last Days of Magic No. 1 gave Michael Hawthorne some serious shine because he succeeded where Strange and other greats have failed.

International Iron Man No. 3 seems to follow the trope that all of Tony’s exes are potential villains.

Karnak No. 4 ended the arc in an unexpected way.

Old Man Logan No. 6 is interesting in the sense that dated cyber punk villains are facing an elderly Logan.

Power Man and Iron Fist No. 4 ended the arc in a satisfying way.

Spidey No. 6 gave us a more humane & decent past Tony Stark.

Star Lord No. 7 featured some Skrull actors that stole the show during the reenactment of Kitty & Pete’s breakup.

Nah, Just Nah:

Nothing was odious and/or repugnant this week!
