The Doktor’s Prescriptions of 5/11/16

FasterThanLight_06-1

Picks of the Week:

Black Panther No. 2

Never really got a true sense of the Wakandan people outside of T’Challa & his inner circle.  This creative team has fleshed them and gave some insight into how the great city functions.  It’s interesting to see such an advanced city suffer from such corruption and abuse of power.

Darth Vader No. 20

This Vader is far more interesting and compelling than his film counterpart.  Kudos to the creative team for fleshing him out and making him something more than Palpatine’s blunt instrument.

Faster Than Light No. 6

Love the fact that this series goes against the grain and has alien life that doesn’t look remotely human at all! The races encountered have their own notions and biases.

Illuminati No. 2

This book made me dig Titania and Absorbing Man even more.  The Hood similar to iconic Thanos in the sense that no matter how much power he achieves he ultimately fails in the end.

Jupiter’s Circle No. 6

This book is another example of NuMillar.  NuMillar is thoughtful, nostalgic, tempered and ultimately satisfying.

Prophet Earth War No. 4

Conan in Space… Man, this needs to be a new genre!

Southern Bastards No. 14

Roberta Tubbs, nuff sed… just read it! I am not going to say anything else.

Vision No. 7

Kudos to the creative team because this is the first time I dug Vision as a character since Young Avengers.

Worth the Read:

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D No. 5 irks me because my least favorite TV show character has transitioned into the comic.  It’s bad enough that the comic Deathlok resembles the TV version.  Now that insufferable wretch is in the comic.

All New X-Men No. 9 shows us that all Hank McCoy’s are horrible people who don’t think of the consequences of their actions.

All New All Different Avengers No. 9 presented us with the new Wasp and her extended family.

Contest of Champions No.

Deadpool No. 11 had an unexpected twist and gave us sincere comedic moments between Wade & Creed.

Fix No. 2 is an interesting comic idea and it makes me wonder how soon Hollywood will option it as a film.

Guardians of the Galaxy No. 8 had a planet of Super Skrulls and reminds us that Flash is a Skrullophobe.

Island No. 7 had a nice mix of stories.

Powers No. 6 was my first taste of this series.

Shutter No. 21 made me wonder why the skeleton dude couldn’t reassemble his body.

Silk No. 8 is another piece of a Marvel event that I am actually enjoying.

The Unbelievable Gwenpool No. 2 gave us a legitimately funny moment with the new Thor.  Gwen’s teammates were interesting.  The book reminded me of the Venture Bros (which is a good thing).

Ultimates No. 7 reactivated my Thanos fatigue.

Venom – Space Knight No. 7 was another display of Flash’s Skrullophobia.

Web Warriors No. 7 reminded me why I dig Punk Rock Spidey

Nah, Just Nah:

Guardians of Infinity No. 6 & Uncanny Inhumans No. 8 were terribly boring IMO!

A married pleasantly plump collection of flesh, blood, bones, tears, & hope
