The Doktor’s Prescriptions for 4/27/16

FourEyesHOF_04-1

Picks of the Week:

All New Wolverine No. 7

It is a refreshing and light hearted change from the heaviness of the previous arc.  Squirrel Girl is slowly growing on me.  I also dug that Laura’s “kid sister” is still around.

Avengers Standoff – Assault on Pleasant Hill Omega No. 1

Another legacy has been created and loved how the previous now mentors the current.  It also gave us a Hydra under Red Skull’s leadership.

Four Eyes No. 4

This issue was a turning point in the relationship Enrico and Four Eyes.  I also dug how creatively Four Eyes overcame his behemoth of an opponent.

Doctor Strange No. 7

I was surprised that anyone worshipped Shuma-Gorath.  Monako stole the show in this issue.  I hope this isn’t his last appearance.

Doctor Strange – Last Days of Magic No. 1

Doctor Mystical, Mahatma Doom, and Professor Xu caught my eye.  Even though their time was brief they made an impression, especially Doom who subdued his enemies in a nonviolent manner.

Injection No. 9

The cast and how they play of each other is one of the highlights of the book.  The injection is an interesting and chilling character.

Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur No. 3

This series overall made me appreciate Devil Dinosaur as a character.  It wasn’t zanny or over-the-top like the Nextwave series but more thoughtful like a Pixar film.  Thankfully it wasn’t depressing like Up!

Ms. Marvel No. 6

This issue gave us a showdown between a Hipster Viking goop T-Rex and an army of Khan clones and a giant Kamala.  The Loki iteration was a nice change from the silver tongued snake.  The squabble between Stark and Danvers gave the hero community more of a dysfunctional family vibe.

Worth the Read:

Amazing Spider-Man No. 11 gaves us a quick wrap up to a long arc.

Angela – Queen of Hel No. 7 is not up my alley.

Carnage No. 7 has a compelling cast.

Daredevil No. 6 is a welcomed change from the previous arc and also gave us the return of Elektra.

Drax No. 6 makes this meathead variant of Drax more enjoyable.

Mythic No. 8 had a ghost blade that kills spirits, could a ghost gun be next or ghost grenades?

Old Man Logan No. 5 explains how things in terms of Logan and the Extraordinary X-Men.

Patsy Walker – Hellcat No. 5 was a bit meh.

Power Lines No. 2 has promise but is a bit rough around the edges.

Spider-Woman No. 6 reminded me of Kill Bill and I loved part with the interdimensional portal partially built with Legos.

Spidey No. 6 made me miss the trademark Osbourne fingerwaves.

Squadron Supreme No. 6 sets up the reckoning between Doctor Spectrum and Blackbolt and the Nighthawk duel.

Star Wars No. 18 demonstrated in my mind why Aphra, Leia, and Sana need to be grouped together more often.

Star Lord No. 6 is nice look at Kitty and Peter’s relationship. Quill seems to be the best Peter in Kitty’s life.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl No. 6 tethers between enjoyable and too kooky to take seriously.

Ultimates No. 6 confused me a bit about Galactus, if he is remnant of the last omniverse. Shouldn’t he be far more powerful, almost on Eternity’s level of power.

Velocity TPB was a nice trip to my comic past, used to love these characters when I was a teen in the 90’s.

Venom – Space Knight No. 6 showed how much Flash and the symbiote have in common.

Nah, Just Nah:

Nothing was that horrid this week

A married pleasantly plump collection of flesh, blood, bones, tears, & hope
