Smiley and the Jokerz are becoming more aggressive in Gotham City.  As the legend of Smiley begins to grow, he’s able to recruit more converts.  I’ll give writer Lee Bermejo credit — he writes a compelling Smiley.  He makes good points that taken by themselves, are believable.  It’s when you attribute these points to a murderer like Smiley that they lose their impact.

We Are Robin is an ensemble comic.  It can be tough to give everyone adequate page-time.  Bermejo juggles this wonderfully.  We check in on Duke Thomas and his parents, Riko’s anger management issues and Izzy juggling school and work.  The most interesting has to be what Dax learns about Dre.

Jorge Corona, Rob Haynes and Trish Mulvihill are back again on art.  The Corona/Haynes combo gets better each month.  The finished product looks so put-together that you can’t see the difference between breakdowns and final pencils.  Mulvihill casts Gotham in the appropriate dark shadows and color hues.

The Joker Gang was introduced in the Batman Beyond animated series.  We Are Robin is the perfect current-day series to seed their origin.  A group of teens are inspired by Batman to dress up like Robins’.  It only stands to reason that Joker could inspire the same following.
