Pick of the Week – Contest of Champions No. 6
What I dug: The history of how Maestro survived Secret War, the explanation of how he armed himself, and the reveal of his master plan.  Overall, I find Maestro to be a very interesting version of the Hulk.
What I don’t fancy: The lack of a buddy cop comic with Maestro, Old Man Logan, and King Thor!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Pick of the Week – GI Joe Deviation No. 1
What I dug:  How Cobra actually made the world a better place and how that tied into villains actually being agents of change motiff.  It was interesting to see how getting his heart’s desire did nothing to satisfy Cobra Commander. The Uncle Cobra scene was adorable and hilarious at the same time.  The return of Nemesis Enforcer was a great sight for an 80’s baby.  Corey Lewis did an excellent job at illustrating this issue, particularly loved his Snake Eyes.

Pick of the Week – Illuminati No. 5
What I dug: The Hood’s drive and ambition reminds me of Lex Luthor and Victor Von Doom – he sacrificed in the magnitude that Doom has to attain power, the choice and location of their hideout, the Enchantress Reveal, Titania’s power upgrade, and the Kev Walker art!  This is another reason why Joshua Williamson is my favorite writer.

What I dug: How the creators combine the Fantastic Four and a quarantine film concepts, combined and ran with them! Each of the more drastic transformations are unique and interesting. Doctor Queen’s change and her adjustment to the change intrigues me.

Uncanny X-Men No. 6
What I dug: The explosive conclusion (see what I did there) of their war with the Dark Riders.  Seeing Magneto hold his own against the Dark Riders at his impaired level.
