The Doktor’s Prescriptions for 3/16/16

detail

All-New Inhumans No. 5
What I dug: The Nuhumans adjusting to their new life and recent trauma in an organic way.
What I don’t fancy: It reminded me of Ultimate Future Foundation in the sense the art didn’t suit the story IMO.
Buy or Nah: Buy!

All-New X-Men No. 6
What I dug: Teen Warren defeating the Blob.
What I don’t fancy: First, Blob pwns Even now Toad?! Will Silkworm from the Warpies beat him next?
Buy or Nah: On the fence!

Captain Marvel No. 3
What I dug: The Kris Anka art, the revelation of the alien vessel’s true purpose, Brand, the Alpha Flight team are all sorts of YAAAAS!
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Deadpool & the Mercs for Money No. 2
What I dug: The Mercs and their interaction with the potential buyers and the brilliance on Wade’s part for sending those specific people.
What I don’t fancy: Return of the mismatched Deadpool doppelganger!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Extraordinary X-Men No. 8
What I dug: The adult version of the recruits and Cerebra stole the show. It’s nice to see the return of Sugar Man!
What I don’t fancy: Wished that Victor Ibanez drew the entire issue!
Buy or Nah: Buy it!

Huck No. 5
What I dug: The NuMillar story style gives me all sorts of feels.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Injection No. 8
What I dug:  Brigid’s lair was visually stunning, kudos to Declan Shalvey! Viv’s human interaction reminds of the Young Avenger Prodigy, especially in his quest for knowledge of human interaction. Robin’s attempt to avoid his legacy and dealing with the literal ghost of the past was brilliant.  Overall, I find Ellis’ view of death and the afterlife interesting.
What I don’t fancy: Was expecting more Ellis technology rambling and scientific musing, was expecting the Moore bait-and-switch with Viv.
Buy or Nah: Buy!

International Iron Man No. 1
What I dug: The art and character design!
What I don’t fancy: The story was a bit boring IMO
Buy or Nah: On the fence!

Kanan No. 12
What I dug: The Weisman writing and characterizations is superb as always!
What I don’t fancy: Why is it over?! Why must you break my heart? YOU MONSTER!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Pick of the Week – Legacy of Luther Strode No. 5
What I dug: The Son Goku/Naruto nature of Luther in the sense that he can reach his foes and bring them out of darkness. Tradd Moore is an artistic beast!
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Monstress No. 4
What I dug: The seamless blend of anime and European fantasy in addition to the fleshing out of the world.
What I don’t fancy: Nah!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Pick of the Week – Power Man and Iron Fist No. 2
What I dug: This book is awesome! David Walker and Sanford Greene are better than good, they are magic! Loved the commentary by the various Marvel players was priceless. Greene’s art is so expressive!
What I don’t fancy: Felt too short!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Scarlet Witch No. 4
What I dug: The encounter with Wanda’s mom and the establishment of a Scarlet Witch mantle & legacy.
What I don’t fancy: Is she a reality warper or a magic  user, PICK ONE MARVEL!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Silk No. 6
What I dug: The humanizing of Black Cat and a proper explanation of her heel turn which was missing from Superior Spider-Man.
What I don’t fancy:
Buy or Nah: Buy it!

Pick of the Week – Spider-Woman No. 5
What I dug: The very grounded and organic depiction of parenthood and its struggles.  I absolutely adored how Roger is with Jessica’s son and it adds more depth to his character IMO.  Hopeless did a splendid job of transforming him into something more than a Mort of the Month!
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy It!

Pick of the Week – Squadron Supreme No. 5
What I dug: The grounding of Hyperion as a solid Superman pastiche with the vulnerability to magic and Thundra’s enrollment into the Squadron.  Found the design of Thundra’s weapon unbelievable cool for some odd reason.  Also love how Nighthawk is like an amalgam of Black Panther and Batman.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy It!

Star Lord No. 5
What I dug: The completion of the birth of Star Lord story.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!

What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy It!

Pick of the Week – The Astonishing Ant-Man No. 6
What I dug: The Stinger reveal, it was a nice bit of nostalgia for a fan of the A-Next series. It makes me wonder if Cassie is on her way to becoming Dr. Cassandra Lang.
What I don’t: Waiting a month to see more Stinger!
Buy or Nah: Buy It!

The Infinity Entity No. 2
What I dug: The art and the overall mystery of the series.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy It!

Uncanny Inhumans No. 6
What I dug: The comedic end of the duel between Mad Thinker and the Leader was light respite to all that drama. It was also cool to see Blackbolt get down and dirty with those muscle heads and proudly hold up the championship belt at the end.
What I don’t fancy: The creepy element with Reader and the teenager, it sullied the character IMO to give him Woody Allen/R. Kelly/Roman Polanski traits!
Buy or Nah: Buy It!

Web Warriors No. 5
What I dug: The T-Rex Electro because dinosaurs make everything better & the Superman pastiche Spider-Man also caught my eye!
What I don’t fancy: The lack of a ninja, robot, or monkey Electro! You can’t have a dinosaur variant without a ninja/monkey/robot! Come on now, guys
Buy or Nah: Buy It!
