The Doktor’s prescriptions for 2/17/15

Birthright_14-1

Pick of the Week – Birthright No. 14
What I dug: The human element in the form Brennan’s lashing out at Mikey. Mikey’s disappearance threw their family into turmoil and his return as damaged adult Conan clone just added more debris to the overall chaotic mess. I especially loved how Mikey’s answer to his recent defeat was similar to his response to getting pwned in Street Fighter. Kudos to Joshua Williamson for adding such an organic sibling argument in such strange circumstances and having it work so well.
What I don’t fancy: Nothing! This is the best book out there IMO!

Avengers Standoff – Assault on Pleasant Hill No. 1
What I dug: The prison concept employed by S.H.I.E.L.D. in the Pleasant Hill program, it’s a pity that telepaths missing from X-Books like Rachel Grey, Emma Frost and her daughters weren’t used in keeping the prisoners in check.
What I don’t fancy: Felt too short!

Max Ride – Ultimate Fight No. 4
What I dug: The story reminds me of Disney’s Gargoyles and Runaways. The beastly henchmen were similar to the artificial gargoyles created by Xanatos. The kids’ distrust of adults took me back to the Runaways glory days
