ADVENTURES OF SUPERGIRL CHAPTER 3 Review

Writer:  Sterling Gates

Chapter 3 of Adventures of Supergirl brings and end to the opening arc.  Writer Sterling Gates takes the time to reveal Rampage’s origin.  We also see her in human form.  I’m not sure if this is Rampage’s original has been updated, but there are similarities between her and Supergirl.  Both are aliens from another planet.  Their paths took different paths once they ended up on Earth.  While the Danvers family took Kara in, all Rampage (real name Caren) had was her sister Moyer.  Clever use of the villain to make our hero question things in her life.

Bengal’s art made Rampage’s origin extra special.  Seeing a young Moyer and Caren go from frolicking with their father to being locked behind bars was dramatic.  Again, Bengal excels in bringing energy to his pages.  The lettering stands out as well.  When Caren begins changing into Rampage, her normal speech balloons begin morphing .  The balloons and letters multiply in size.  Explosions even stand out as their made to look distinct.

As the issue ends, Supergirl starts to question her relationship with her sister Alex.  Supergirl learned some things about Alex last issue that don’t sit well with her.  Add to this Supergirl learning of Alex’s involvement with Caren and Moyer, and Kara has some pondering to do.

The ending was abrupt but that can be understood since pages are limited in the digital first format.
