Pick of the Week – Kanan the Last Padawan No. 8
What I dug: The issue lays the groundwork for the crucible that led Kanan to become the man we are familiar with in Star Wars Rebel. The series benefits from having Greg Weisman as writer because he writes the animated companion series.  Mr. Weisman is quite skilled at writing engaging stories with layered characters. My fellow 80’s babies and geeks remember Gargoyles, the Spectacular Spider-Man and most recently Young Justice.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!

Pick of the Week – Star Wars No. 12
What I dug: A LIGHT SABER WIELDING WOOKIE & A FIGHTING HUTT! Those two moments are more than worth the price of admission in my book. I can’t recall ever seeing a Hutt engage in battle, let alone hold his own. I was wowed. Outside of the Expanded Universe comics, I have never seen a Wookie with a light saber. These scenes were masterfully rendered by one Mr. Immonen!
What I don’t fancy: Not a thing!

Pick of the Week – The Mighty Thor No. 1
What I dug: It’s an interesting start of the series with the Odinson missing, the all-mother imprisoned by Odin, and Cul functioning as the law in Asgardia.  The Thunder Guard looks intimidating, hopefully they won’t be pushovers like Doom’s Thor Corps.  Mr. Dauterman continues to do his thing as Thor artist.
What I don’t fancy: I am tired of stories with pig-headed Odin. It’s like Odin only has two feeling, rage and hubris. If Zeus, a mythological man-whore, can have some depth in Marvel why can’t Odin?
Buy or Nah: BUY IT NOW!!!

Black Knight No. 1
What I dug: It makes perfect sense to put Dane Whitman in such an unpredictable and savage setting like Weird World.  His supporting cast reminds me of folk that would pop up in a Conan book or a D & D novel. I wonder how this book ties in with the other Weird World title.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Captain America – Sam Wilson No. 3
What I dug: Having lived through/purchased the original Cap Wolf storyline, I was very apprehensive about the return of that concept. I was pleasantly surprised that it was better than I expected. The commentary by the average citizen continue to be one of the series’ many gems.
What I don’t fancy: I want more! It felt like I was just getting started with a feast.
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Deadpool No. 2
What I dug: Wade getting served by Hawkeye was hilarious.  The mystery behind who is posing as Wade is definitely reason to continue following this series. I am confused and excited by the prospect of Stingray working as one of Wade’s Wage Heroes.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Extraordinary X-Men No. 2
What I dug: I never expected X-Haven to be there. I enjoyed seeing Pete and Yana as a family again. Cerebra inhabiting a Sentinel husk and her interaction with Grumpy Old Logan were gems.
What I don’t fancy: I miss the Aristocratic Nathan Essex, why is the bondage fetishist Essex back?
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Ms. Marvel No. 1
What I dug: I love how Bruno has moved on and gotten over his crush on Kamala in a healthy way.  The way Bruno and Michaela became a couple felt so organic and natural.  The lightning golems that inhabit Kamala’s city are an unexpected new addition.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

New Avengers No. 3
What I dug: I continue to enjoy the concept behind this Avengers team as well as the ideas being presented. It makes perfect sense that Teddy isn’t the only Kree-Skrull hybrid in existence and other hybrids view him as a savior figure.
What I don’t fancy: I don’t think that art is a right fit for the story. It doesn’t seem like Billy’s power level is on the same level as it was in the last Young Avengers series.
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Secret Wars, Too No. 1
What I dug: Nada!
What I don’t fancy: Everything!
Buy or Nah: Nah!

Spider-Woman No. 1
What I dug: Jessica Drew’s dinner party and her interaction with Tony were the highlight of the issue IMO.
What I don’t fancy: Tired of seeing Skrulls as the villains.
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Star Wars – Vader Down No. 1
What I dug: This issue reminds us why Vader is the boogieman of Star Wars. Why exactly he is a force to be reckoned with. I can’t wait to see how he handles the cards he has been dealt with next issue.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Star-Lord No. 1
What I dug: It is awesome that someone is actually explaining what happened during Quill’s childhood and fleshed out how he became the man we know.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

The Astonishing Ant-Man  No. 2
What I dug: It’s great to see Darla Deering again and find out what exactly happened between her and Scott.  The Magician is an interesting villain, I hope to see more of him.
What I don’t fancy: It seems like Scott Lang is being played as a bigger loser than Peter Parker (in the sense that whenever things are going well for him, the next writer returns him to a down-on-his-luck struggling hero!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

The Uncanny Avengers Annual No. 1
What I dug: It’s a nice setup for the Scarlet Witch series and give an inclining of what Wanda will be facing.
What I don’t fancy: Nada!
Buy or Nah: Buy!

Uncanny Inhumans No. 2
What I dug: This issue reminds me why Kang is a fearsome force to contend with.  He’s no longer the future’s greatest warrior getting beat down by folk who are Neanderthal to him. He has mastery of time and he’s using it in a decisive way instead his usual hairbrain scheme of bringing back dinosaurs to face the likes of Hulk.
What I don’t fancy: I am tired of time travel stories, especially repulsed by them when Hank “I Just Mess Things Up” McCoy is involved!
