I was able to get a preview of a digital comic called The Further Travels of Wyatt Earp.  It’s available for download from Comixology and Amazon Kindle.  The description for it reads,

Years after the legendary Gunfight at the O.K. Corrall, Wyatt Earp leaves law enforcement behind, vowing to never die at the end of a bullet. But as he travels the American West he discovers that his good reputation can be his worst enemy, because every time he thinks he’s out, they pull him back in.

What we now know as the state of Idaho was once a desolate land of fur-trading outposts on the way to the Pacific. But all that changed in October of 1860 when Elias Davidson Pierce discovered gold in Orofino Creek. Soon, thousands of prospectors swarmed the region, chased away the natives and set up mining camps
that quickly grew into large cities. But along with these greedy young men also came crime, and law and order was in short supply…

…until Wyatt Earp came to town.

What I Liked

A comic adapted for the digital medium means less panels per page.  This can be a good thing.  This forces the story to move at a quicker pace.  The POV character is a little girl.  There is a great scene at the beginning where she pretends to be a big bad outlaw to scare claim jumpers.

Characters are quickly introduced.  Writer Joe Caramagna does a nice job getting each person’s personality displayed to the reader.  Wyatt Earp does appear, and the conflict between him and the girl is entertaining.  You can see that the girl looks up to Earp.  She’s heard the tales of his bravery and is eager to see him put bad guys in their place.

There was some creative panel perspective throughout the comic.  The team of Scott Koblish, Andrew Edge, and Melissa Horvath should be applauded.  On one page the girl can appear to be an actual claim jumper in the shadow, and on the next page it can be shown in multiple panels how the deception was pulled off.  Earp remains a mysterious figure through shadows and facial expressions.
