All-Female A-FORCE Assembles in SECRET WARS

Last week Marvel planned a big announcement on the daytime TV talk show The View.  I am at work when The View airs, so I had to rely on social media to let me know what the announcement would be.  The last time Marvel booked time on The View, it was to announce that a woman would be taking up the mantle of Thor.  Since it is a talk show geared towards women, it was safe to assume the big news would be along those same lines.

My guess was the announcement would involve G. Willow Wilson, the writer and co-creator of the highly-successful relaunch of Ms. Marvel.  Before 2014 ended, Marvel invited some of their top creators to their New York offices for a creative summit.  At these retreats, the next year of publishing is planned out.  After the summit concluded, it was announced that Wilson had signed an exclusive contract with Marvel and would be working on a new project for them.

These clues are what led me to believe that Wilson would be tied to what would be shown on The View.  And I was right!  Even though the announcement wasn’t ACTUALLY made on The View, it was revealed that Wilson, along with co-writer Marguerite Bennett, and artist Jorge Molina, would be launching A-Force.  An all-female team of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

According to Mashable, who actually got the exclusive news, “The A-Force will consist of She-Hulk, Dazzler, Medusa, Nico Minoru and many others — including at least one new superhero, a “cosmically powered” heroine named Singularity.”  As Secret Wars begins, the all-new female team of Avengers will “take over and lead the way”.

“We’ve purposefully assembled a team composed of very different characters — from disparate parts of the Marvel U, with very different power sets, identities and ideologies,” Wilson said. “They’ll all have to come together to answer some big questions: What would you sacrifice to succeed? What is being a hero worth?”

AFORCE-1

I’ll be curious to see the fan reaction to this after it starts.  With it debuting within Secret Wars that could be a positive or negative.  A positive that the spotlight of Secret Wars will put extra eyes on it.  A negative if fans rebel against Secret Wars and the possibility of Marvel rebooting their publishing line.  I believe Axel Alonso said during his weekly CBR Axel-in-Charge interview that A-Force would be THE Avengers team during Secret Wars and even afterwards.

Will you be picking up A-Force?  Make sure to leave your thoughts in the Comments section below.
