Review: UNCANNY X-MEN #24

Writer:  Brian Michael Bendis
Artist:  Kris Anka
Lettering & Production:  VC’s Joe Caramagna
Publisher:  Marvel Comics

“The Last Will and Testament” is billed as a tie-in to the Original Sin event.  Honestly, so far there is nothing in revealing Charles Xavier’s will that links it to Original Sin.  Except a secret from Xavier’s past being brought to the forefront.  Anyway, if you ignore all that, the reader gets a pretty compelling story that assembles Cyclops’ X-Men and the X-Men of the Jean Grey School.

What I Liked

This was a vast improvement over the previous issue.  There was a lot of fun banter between the X-Men.  She-Hulk even got involved in it.  Brian Michael Bendis masterfully bounced the characters off one another.  There are many individuals to juggle but Bendis nails it.

It dawned on me why Mystique has been obsessed with Professor X’s legacy in the beginning of All-New X-Men.  It is because of something we learn in this comic.

And who is this mysterious Matthew fellow?

Kris Anka provides the art for this arc.  It felt like so many things were happening throughout, but they were mostly dialogue sequences.  That is a testament to how Anka showed expression to each character as they argued and debated back and forth.  Plus, Anka is the person who created the new look for Dazzler.  Which I will get to below.

What I Didn’t Like

So Dazzler gets a new look and sends the Internet into a rage.  With how everyone was making a big deal over it, and with the new look being featured on the cover, one would think that it would be a big focus inside the comic.  That, however, is not true.  There was barely a passing reference to Dazzler.

I am not sure how I feel about the bombshell secret that Xavier revealed at the end of the book.  This reveal has been referenced in All-New X-Men, but seeing it spelled out here just raises so many questions.  Why?!

Summary

I am ready to find out what the big secret from Charles Xavier’s will is.  I hope it really does change the status quo across the X-Men line of comics.  Will it tie into this new Matthew character?  How does he play into everything?  I need answers!!
