Review: ALL-NEW X-FACTOR #2

Writer:  Peter David
Artist:  Carmine Di Giandomenico
Colorist:  Lee Loughridge
Letterer:  VC’s Cory Petit
Publisher:  Marvel Comics

The new corporate-sponsored mutant team of All-New X-Factor is off on their first mission.  Dr. Terrance Hoffman has been conducting experiments on mutants for A.I.M.  How does this trio of mutants fare as a team?  Will they work as a cohesive group or let their egos get in the way?

What I Liked

This is a fun book.  Even though this is the first time this iteration of X-Factor has teamed up, they do a pretty good job of working together.  Polaris, as team leader, looks out for her teammates.  Gambit and Quicksilver even manage to coexist.

Peter David seems to have a firm grasp of the voices for each character.  Gambit is wary of Serval Industries.  The mutants that X-Factor are rescuing have the right amount of hatred and vengeance.  Carmine Di Giandomenico lays some beautiful panels.  David keeps a fast pace to the issue, which allows for Di Giandomenico to illustrate plenty of action.

What I Didn’t Like

Even with A.I.M. as the villain I can’t deduct points.  The book was that enjoyable.  Hoffman leeching the super powers of mutants to turn himself into a living weapon is pretty unoriginal, so that could be looked at as a negative.  Plus everything is resolved fairly easily.

Summary

As the recap page displays, we have three more members of All-New X-Factor to introduce.  I have faith Peter David will keep the dialogue light while also leaving room for intrigue as to the real motives of Serval Industries and the team members interacting amongst themselves.
