Review: UNCANNY X-MEN #13

Writer:  Brian Michael Bendis
Penciler:  Chris Bachalo
Inkers:  Tim Townsend, Al Vey, Mark Irwin, Jaime Mendoza & Victor Olazaba
Colorist:  Marte Gracia
Letterer:  VC’s Joe Caramagna

With the true identities of the first group of future X-Men (Brotherhood of Evil Mutants) being revealed, Uncanny X-Men #13 gets down to some good ol’ fashion brawling between good and evil.

What I Liked

It was great seeing the present and future X-Men fighting side-by-side.  Future Colossus and Magik together, both wielding soulswords….awesome to see.

With this being an Uncanny X-Men portion of “Battle of the Atom”, a few of their cast gets more attention than others.  Its how the crossover has worked so far.

I also like how Brian Michael Bendis has treated the time travel rules as they relate to the original X-Men.  Things don’t go as planned when the Brotherhood tries sending them back to the past.

What I Didn’t Like

It was hard keeping up with Chris Bachalo‘s art.  I’m a fan of his work, but some of his panels can be hard to follow.  Some of it can be because of the poses he gives people, and the dark inks and colors.  I find it hard to tell who is who, or who is actually fighting.

Another negative I can see is the HUGE cast involved in “Battle of the Atom”.  Each different X-book in the crossover has their own team, along with two groups from the future.  The final product is a lot of people being used as decoration in backgrounds.

Summary

Uncanny X-Men #13 is the action-oriented portion of “Battle of the Atom”.  The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants attempts to send the original X-Men back to the past, but things do not go as planned.  Cyclops has led a team of X-Men (including the true, future X-Men) to the Jean Grey School to put a stop to the Brotherhood.  For once we get to see Cyclops doing good and being the hero we know he can be.

Mystique and Wolverine have a kid in the future? nah, I don’t see it.
maybe Creed and Raven but not Jimmy Logan

    • Mystique and Creed had that one son, who wasn’t a mutant. The writers probably decided to switch the dynamic and have Logan & Mystique have a kid this time.

two mutants have a kid with no mutant genes? what’s interesting about that, how pointless.

Mystique disguised herself as Yukio and slept with Logan during Aaron’s Wolverine run where Mystique and Sabertooth led the Hand. Apparently her powers have grown to the point that she can fool his nose. I think Raze is the product of that hook up.

          • Ohhhh okay I didn’t know about that. Thanks!
