$325,000 stretch goal: Mr. Fancy Pants!

Free show Tuesday night in New York City!

New York, NY – May 13, 2013. In its first 28 days, the “Code Monkey Save World” graphic novel Kickstarter has raised over seven times its original target and hit stretch goals that will enable project masterminds Greg Pak and Jonathan Coulton to expand the book from 60 to 100 pages and add digital downloads of a brand new acoustic album by Coulton and an entirely new children’s book based on the Coulton song “The Princess Who Saved Herself” as a bonus to all backers at the $15 level and above.
Today, Pak and Coulton are entering the last 48 hours of their campaign with two final stretch goals.

“JOCO FUNNIES” STRETCH GOAL

If the Kickstarter hits $300,000, the team will expand the book to 104 pages and add several pages of “JoCo Funnies,” newspaper-style comic strips based on classic Coulton songs. Acclaimed cartoonists Adam Koford (“Laugh-Out-Loud Cats”), Ruben Bolling (“Tom the Dancing Bug”), and David Rees (“Get Your War On”) are on board to contribute.

“Jonathan Coulton creates stories and worlds that are a veritable playground for cartoonists,” says Koford. “I’m excited to be involved and can’t wait to play with his characters.”

“I’m really glad for the opportunity to be a part of this really fun and ground-breaking project,” says Bolling. “But more importantly, if the stretch goal is met, Jonathan Coulton’s work will finally receive the treatment that will complete his vision: a filtering through the lens of mid-20th century daily newspaper comic strips.”

If the stretch goal is met, Pak will also contribute a strip called “Li’l Blue, the Lonely Vampire,” based on Coulton’s song “Blue Sunny Day.”

“I’m strongly considering having Li’l Blue erupt into flame in the bright sun as the punchline of every strip,” says Pak. “We clearly need to hit this stretch goal, y’all.”

“MR. FANCY PANTS” STRETCH GOAL

If the Kickstarter hits $325,000, the team will add a short comic book story based on Coulton’s beloved “Mr. Fancy Pants” song.

“The story in the song ‘Mr. Fancy Pants’ has never made much sense to me, so I’m looking forward to having someone else tell me what that song is really about.”

“I know EXACTLY what ‘Mr. Fancy Pants’ is all about,” says Pak. “And if we hit that stretch goal, I’ll tell the whole world.”
