Apple Bans Image Comics SAGA #12 For Depicting Gay Sex

Saga has always been one of those books that I have heard great things about, but never read.  So many books, so little time.  I’ve made a list of books that I plan on eventually starting from their beginning, and Saga is on that list.  I have heard it described as a new-age Star Wars, so that’s some lofty praise.

Today, Apple announced that they would not be distributing Saga #12 in any of their apps due to the depiction of a gay sex scene in the book.  Now remember, I have never read an issue of Saga.  However, I have heard that previous issues have included graphic sex scenes.  So what makes this issue any different than the others?  The others didn’t contain gay sex.

I decided to see for myself what all the fuss was about.  And right smack dab on the first two pages of the book are the images in question.  I’ll admit, I was surprised it was that blatant.  I can see why Apple was hesitant about having the issue available for download.  But Apple also looks bad for choosing now to ban Saga after letting so many other sex scenes go by.  Plus who knows what other comics available on Comixology depict sex taking place?  Do erotic novels count?  Or are pictures more dangerous than words?

Below are preview pages made available by Image Comics.  Take a look for yourself, and let us know what your feelings are on the matter in the comments section.
