Disney XD Introduces “Marvel Universe”

A good friend of mine on Twitter, @D_GMenAllDay, has been inquiring on when season two of Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes would begin.  We are both big fans of the series and could not wait for it to return to our fall/winter TV schedules.

Disney XD finally announced that Avengers: EMH would return Sunday, April 1.  Spider-Man will also be starring in yet another animated adventure titled Ultimate Spider-Man.  Smartly, Disney XD is capitalizing on this by calling their Marvel-themed programming block “Marvel Universe.”

I remember when the opening theme for Avengers: EMH leaked online before it’s debut.  I thought the music was corny and the art subpar.  But then I watched the mini-episodes, and then each regular season episode. Marvel/Disney really outdid themselves with stories that seemed as if they were ripped from the comics’ pages, while taking full advantage of a vast array of characters from The Avengers history.

Ultimate Spider-Man is an interesting creature.  Not too long ago Spider-Man had another animated series, Spectacular Spider-Man, canceled.  I have no idea why it was canceled because it was actually GOOD.  In Ultimate Spider-Man, Spidey will be working alongside Nick Fury and SHIELD.  I wonder if this is Marvel/Disney’s way to piggyback on SHIELD’s popularity from the Iron Man/Thor/Hulk/Captain America movies.  Supposedly Spider-Man will be on a team with four other teenage superheroes.  So far these heroes have not been revealed.  My guess is they will be the teen versions of already established heroes from the Marvel universe.

Again, the “Marvel Universe” programming block on Disney XD begins April 1.
