WWE SummerSlam Pre-Show Breakdown

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen!  Tonight the WWE is bringing us SummerSlam live from Los Angeles, CA.  The main event will decide who the true WWE Champion is, when CM Punk goes up against John Cena, with new WWE COO Triple H as the Guest Referee.  Also Christian will defend the World Heavyweight Title against Randy Orton in a No Holds Barred match.

Let’s run down all the matches one-by-one…..

WWE Title – WWE Champion John Cena vs WWE Champion CM Punk w/ Guest Referee Triple H

WWE could have gotten away with a straight rematch between John Cena and CM Punk, but it’s a good idea to spice things up by involving Triple H.  Since Triple H was named the COO, I believe he has opened every RAW and Smackdown. The only question is will Triple H’s involvement overshadow the match. Everyone will be waiting for a screwjob to take place.  With the kind of fan reaction CM Punk is receiving, the logical decision would be to turn Cena heel, no matter how much merchandise he sells to the little kiddies.  WWE has a real opportunity to capitalize on the CM Punk fandom.  However current history leads me to believe they will screw it up royally.  For evidence look at the Nexus from last year.

Prediction – Triple H pedigrees both Cena & Punk, counts both men out and match a draw.  Then grabs both titles and poses on turnbuckle as show ends.

World Heavyweight Title – Champion Christian vs Randy Orton.  No Holds Barred

Last month Christian won the title by getting Randy Orton to snap and get disqualified.  Hence a No Holds Barred match. Honestly I haven’t watched much Smackdown so I don’t know what these two have been up to leading up to tonight.  I’m still not use to seeing Orton grinning and smiling every time he comes out to the ring.  Christian and Orton have good chemistry, and I’m sure WWE will give them 20+ minutes to put on a show for the crowd.

Prediction – Christian retaining by using an underhanded tactic .  I believe they can get one more PPV bout out of this combination.

WWE Divas Title – Champion Kelly Kelly vs Beth Phoenix

Beth Phoenix recently turned heel, tired of parading around as a happy-go-lucky babyface.  Kelly Kelly has not had the title for very long, so will WWE want to take it off her waist?

Prediction – Beth Phoenix will win.  There are plenty of divas for her to defend the title against as an unstoppable menace.

Sheamus vs Mark Henry

This match has come about fairly quickly.  Mark Henry has been on a warpath destroying wrestlers and backstage workers.  It was looking like WWE was grooming him for a title match on this PPV, but decided they wanted to prolong the Christian/Orton feud.  Sheamus has been a heel for so long that the fans don’t realize that they should be cheering him in this matchup.  I’m sure Mr. McMahon is filled with pure glee at these two muscle-bound men battling each other in the ring.  With Triple H controlling things now, I’m sure it was his idea to turn Sheamus babyface.

Prediction – I see two outcomes; either the match will end in a draw (keeping both men strong in the eyes of the fans) or Henry wins to continue his dominance for a future title challenge.

Wow…I got this match listing straight from WWE.com but was certain there would be more matches on the card.  Four matches….WWE is really going to go into their second biggest show of the year behind Wrestlemania with only four matches booked on the card?  Where is The Miz, Alberto Del Rio, Rey Mysterio, R-Truth, and John Morrison?  This has the makings of two or three additional matches being added on the spot during the show.  The Miz laid out Mysterio on this week’s RAW, and Morrison has unfinished business with R-Truth.

Which matches are you looking forward to seeing tonight?  Disagree with any of my predictions?  Let your voice be heard in our comments section below.  And also check back to KLIQNation after the show has concluded for my thoughts.
