Bad Teacher Review

“IT’S THE ONLY ARGUMENT I NEED SHAWN!!”

If there is one phrase moviegoers had stuck in their minds before seeing Bad Teacher, it’s the one above. Commercials and trailers nowadays make sure to show us all the funniest segments from comedies.  I was hesitant to see Bad Teacher because I assumed I had already seen all the best scenes for free, so why pay $7?  But with having nothing else to do on a Saturday afternoon, I figured $7 is money well spent to get out of my home while also getting my laugh on.

Thankfully Bad Teacher wasn’t a total disappointment.  It kept things simple, and didn’t go for the obligatory “Teacher starts out being horrible at her job, becomes inspired, and learns to love her students in the end” schtick.

Cameron Diaz was crass but not totally over the line where it became annoying.  I expected her to be cussing students out left and right.  That would require too much energy out of her though.

Justin Timberlake wasn’t given much to do, but he never detracted from the movie.  I’m still confused how him and Cameron Diaz went from having a conversation to dry humping each other in the next scene, but it did give Timberlake a chance to make the audience laugh.  Another highlight for him was performing with an all-teacher band and singing an original song to a special lady.

My favorite character would have to be Jason Segal’s.  He had perfect comedic timing as far as entering scenes and delivering his sarcastic lines.  Plus he wasn’t a focal point of the movie.  He’d join a scene, deliver his witty joke, then vamoose.

If Segal was my favorite character, the funniest one overall would be Diaz’s foil, Lucy Punch.  There have been many Happy-Go-Lucky characters throughout movies, so Punch wasn’t original.    But she wasn’t so over the top that her antics became annoying.  Kudos to her.

In closing Bad Teacher was time well spent.  I’d recommend it if you’re looking for some laughs.  My only recommendation is to leave the kiddies at home, unlike the parents sitting a few rows behind me.  Everyone knows it’s an R-rated movie, so the least you can do is find a babysitter so your kids don’t have to hear Cameron Diaz profess her excitement to ravage a male’s nether regions.

Have any of you seen Bad Teacher?  If so, make sure to leave us comments with your opinions.
